Haiku – Perchance to Mosh

Metal in my veins

Filled up with adrenaline

Blood filled energy

I know this probably won’t be super popular, but the opening line to this Haiku popped into my head earlier today. I had to do something with it so I wrote this. I’ve also been listening to a lot of Slayer recently. A band that I kind of ignored for many years because I thought they were just too Satanic for my blood. I realized that if you just get past the album covers and album titles that they have some truly great metal to listen to. I honestly believe that out of all the speed and thrash metal bands out there that they are among the fastest I have ever heard. I’ll include “Hallowed Point” as an example for you. Warning, it isn’t for the faint of heart and it isn’t for those who can’t take blistering fast music. Nuff said. Let’s do this.

So, thoughts on Slayer? I know there are a few of you out there who can answer this.

I’ve never been the biggest fan. I always say I appreciate them more than I love them, if that makes sense? Their first two albums and EP are most to my taste.

They have always seemed too far for me. I can listen to songs like Moonchild and Hellrider, and really get into them, but there has always been something about Slayer that just puts me off. I guess I will just have to pick and chose what I listen to by them.

I’m the same, if I’m in the mood I enjoy them but it’s not a mood that I get in very often. It’s hard to put a finger on it though… I feel like I maybe just prefer more drama and atmosphere? Slayer can be too much of a bludgeon sometimes!

I can understand that. Slayer is like an atom bomb going off. What are your thoughts on Dragonforce and bands like that?

I like some of that kind of stuff… A lot of it is a bit too happy-sounding for me though! Wasn’t too keen on Dragonforce but I have liked the odd song of theirs here and there. What about yourself?

I am honestly hooked on Dragonforce and that whole European Power Metal Scene. I’m also pretty old school as well, Metallica, Maiden, Priest, bands like that. Trivium and Five Finger Death Punch are my go to new bands.

I’ve been listening to a bit of Gamma Ray lately, I like them. And I’ve got a couple of good Trivium albums too but I’ve not followed their recent stuff. Need a catch up!

My buddy got me into Trivium. A really great band. Gamma Ray have some amazing songs. I need to listen to them more.
