Review and Haiku: Superman (2025)

Welcome to Disembodied Screams, spoilers, possibly, maybe, proceed with caution. You’ve been warned. Quick reminder, this episode is available in Video form on Spotify or YouTube or you can listen to it on Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, or Spotify. With all that said, let’s get started –
Horror that lives in your soul? What? No, this isn’t a horror movie, far from it, probably not even horror adjacent, but there are some creepy moments. When Superman is covered in those nano boats and he’s encased in that mummy-like substance or when he vomits up those nano bots – a very end of a possession movie moment. The girl chasing him throughout the movie The Engineer played by María Gabriela de Faría – she had some horrific moments. Transforming into many things and a few were kind of terrifying. I even wondered if my daughter was okay during one of those transformations. The Engineer even turns her arms into tentacles – creepy stuff and there’s that other dimension with that straight out of a horror movie alien ferryman moving that floating barge past those glass prison cells. And if you want to truly keep it in the horror family and truly justify this movie on this Channel – James Gunn wrote and directed Superman. Ever heard of him? He gave us some great Guardians of the Galaxy movies that have some horror moments splattered throughout them, probably more than Superman, he wrote and directed Slither, which I would love to cover at some point in time on the Channel, and he wrote, possibly and some consider it, the best remake of the remake era – Dawn of the Dead. He’s no stranger to the horror genre even if he’s playing around with Superheroes now. I think all of that justifies this movie being on the channel, and I like to cover comic book stuff too, mostly with a horror lean.
Moving all of that aside, beyond that thin justification, the absolute main reason why I wanted to cover Superman is because I enjoyed this movie. Reminded me of the OG Superman when I was just a youngster. It’s a movie that makes you smile and I am down for that. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of gut wrenching moments, but overall this is a feel good movie with a feel good ending. You walk away feeling a bit better after watching it.
Cast wise, this is probably the most ruthless Lex Luthor I’ve seen on screen. He was purely and simply evil – thank you dr. loomis. I liked the way Nicholas Hoult portrayed him. No goofy criminal stuff – just stoic and focused on his goal. Nicholas was very believable. Made you hate Lex, a lot, and root for his eventual end demise. Maybe the best Lex we’ve gotten so far. Louis Lane played by Rachel Brosnahan was great in her role. Skyler Gisondo, played Jimmy Olsen, he was good too, captured the character nicely, and David Corenswet who played Superman. Kudos to him for embodying this iconic superhero through and through. Spot on casting. Very OG 1978 Superman right down to the suit, which looked amazing. David did a great job stepping into the role of Clark Kent and Superman, which I know isn’t easy. Christopher Reeve laid a big shadow over this character and he is still the one I think of when I think of Superman, but David held his own and brought his own style to this iconic superhero.
Krypto the dog, loved him too. Added a bit of humor in the darkest of times. Hawk Girl played by Isabela Merced, that screech is worthy of some horror movie moments. Mr Terrific played by Edi Gathegi did a great job as well, and one of my favorites, Nathan Fillion as The Green Lantern, he always adds so much life to even the smallest of roles. Awesome as the Green Lantern. His haircut was nothing short of a nightmare.
Beyond that, story, script, directing, top notch. James Gunn did an amazing job behind the lens. Great action, effects, and fight scenes – I felt those punches. And speaking of sound, let’s go with one of my absolute favorite parts of this entire movie – the score. Chef’s kiss. It fit this movie like a glove and I loved hearing the sprinkles of the OG 1978 Superman throughout the film set to an electric guitar. Bravo to the music department for making such a great score and it’s funny too. James Gunn kind of funny. Had me laughing in good times and bad. Now, the haiku.
Lex Luthor rages
Trying to stop Superman
Man of steel prevails
One more thing or a few more things – loved the end when Superman blasted up into the air and spun in a circle with that heat vision blasting all those robots to pieces. Cool stuff and there’s even a gigantic Kaju and a floating tentacled eyeball that had me laughing. I’ll stop there because I could keep rambling. What are your thoughts on this movie, love it or hate it, and like, subscribe, follow, leave a review, wherever you are hearing or watching this episode find a way to give it some love. And if do subscribe because of this episode thank you. I appreciate it. I don’t plan to venture this far off the horror path very often but I really enjoyed this movie and wanted to talk about it. I had no other place to do it than this Channel. That’s why it’s here. Spiderman will be the next venture off the horror path, but that’s for the future. Take care and have a good one.
What TV shows did you watch as a kid?
Scooby Doo came to mind immediately. Probably where my love of horror and scary things originated. Saturday morning cartoons were a thing when I was a kid. Enjoyed many of them in the 70s and early 80s. Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers are very early memories too.
Lots of 80’s Sitcoms – I turned from a kid to a teenager in that decade. Consumed many of those now classic shows. Night Court, Golden Girls (funny even as a teen), Cosby Show, Perfect Strangers, Family Ties, Who’s the Boss …. and on and on it goes.
My dad got me into Sanford and Son and to this day we still quote that show.
Tell us about the last thing you got excited about.
Superman
Got back to the theater recently and absolutely loved the experience this movie gave me. Felt like a kid again. And it was my daughter’s first time at the movies. Nice to give her that experience.
What are your top ten favorite movies?
When I think of a Top Ten it’s practically impossible to make a list like that and I won’t. I will throw out some I return to often.
Star Wars OG Trilogy (technically one long movie strung together over all three)
Indiana Jones (all of them)
Evil Dead, Scream, Psycho, and Friday the 13th – I can watch any one of those in any franchise and enjoy them.
Batman Begins – favorite Batman movie
Hereditary – freaked me out
Ghost Stories – The original Haunting, The Changeling, Poltergeist, Hell House LLC
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Halloween – 1978
And on and on it goes . . .
Ten is impossible for me. I love movies. Especially horror ones, find them extra tasty, so I usually watch them over others.
What brings you peace?
A long walk.
A hike in nature.
A good book.
Watching a movie.
Getting lost listening to music.
Anything that helps me destress and recharge my mental battery. That’s how I find peace in a stressful world.
What profession do you admire most and why?
Anyone in the saving profession is to be admired – Police, Firefighters, Nurses, Doctors, etc. – and I am always willing to sing their praises.
However, there’s one profession out there that I admire that doesn’t get the praise it should. I do it. I live it everyday. I am in that profession. The stay-at-home and take care of the family profession. It’s 24 hrs a day 7 days a week and you are constantly on call. No matter what time of night or day it’s your job to handle whatever happens – good or bad.
Being home has helped me admire and appreciate what my mom did for me for so many years. I never knew how tough it was raising me and my brother until I stayed home. I admire any person, mom or dad, who decides to take up the reins and stay home full time.
Best thing about being home for me. I am getting to watch my kids grow and to witness their growth each and everyday. That’s the positive that helps me push through the toughest of moments.
This one is probably my favorite of anything I have made for YouTube. Why? My kids helped me make it. Great memories.

Spoilers, possibly, maybe, proceed with caution. You’ve been warned. Here we go.
I think the initial problem I had with this movie was the PG-13 rating. I don’t like cutaway kills, I want to see it all in its full gory goodness, and there would have been some good gory goodness in this movie without those cutaways, but putting the gore lover side of me aside there’s still lots to like here. The Aliens and the Predators look awesome, enjoyed seeing not one but 3 Predators and I enjoyed seeing the aliens. Always enjoy them and the fight scenes between aliens and predators was great. Paul W.S. Anderson, director, some love him, some don’t, I’m in the middle of that argument, did a great job behind the lens with the fight scenes. Easy to see, easy to watch, some great slow mo at times.
And the overall pacing of the movie is great too. Doesn’t lag or drag and we aren’t drawn in to a bunch of useless human drama. They’re mostly there for Alien Fodder.
Acting was solid the little bit that was needed. Location – awesome – love seeing movies in the snow and I enjoyed all of the pyramid stuff as well. One of the best parts of this movie was the setting. Great score too – and on and on it goes.
Two fierce enemies
Battling for survival
Chance for dominance
One thing that is a positive about the PG-13 rating. This is a good gateway movie for kids who aren’t old enough for the other R rated movies in either series. I do like that aspect of it. Now, your thoughts on the movie? Comment below. Take care and have a good one.

The world lost Ozzy Osbourne recently and I was trying to think of something fun to pay tribute to him. And, lightbulb, this movie popped into my mind. I haven’t seen it in years and thought why not dust it off and give it a watch. It was on Screambox so easy to find and watch and spoilers, possibly, maybe, proceed with caution – here we go.
I will go on the record and say that I wasn’t the biggest Ozzy fan, he was never one of my go to artists, but I have enjoyed his music throughout the years and I love the fact that he often dipped his toes in the horror genre in his music, as a solo artist – Mr Crowley, Bark at the Moon, immediately come to mind, and even in the Black Sabbath years, lots of horror to be found there too. Just listen to the song Black Sabbath and you will hear what spooky truly sounds like – it’s very ominous and creepy. And in case you care about this, this is my history with Ozzy – I don’t know of a time in my life when he wasn’t in the public eye or I wasn’t aware of who he was. I missed the Sabbath years because I was born in 1972 but I caught up with Ozzy in the Eighties, when my love of Metal blossomed, and to this day, Metal is a constant in my life. I love it. And not just the mainstream metal – I go deep – Cattle Decapatation – deep at times. I just love metal. Love the way it makes you feel. Makes you feel alive and present – in the moment – youthful – and imagine being a young kid, close to the teens, and seeing this album cover at a friend’s house.

That probably helped to jump start my love of horror too even though I didn’t know it at the time. Anyway, I didn’t mean to have a long intro into this video but I felt like putting all of that out there so you know where I stand with the man, the prince of darkness, Mr. Osbourne. Rest in peace Ozzy – your legend will never die.
Moving on, lets now get into the movie Trick or Treat, which I truly enjoyed from start to finish. It’s full of music that I grew up on, music that was popular when I ventured from a kid into a teenager. Needless to say I knew going into this revisit that I would dig the music featured in this movie and I did – big time. Score is pumping throughout. Filled with that great Eighties metal sound. Thumbs up for that and thumbs up for the effects – biggest highlight had to be the effects, from the green mist coming out of those headphones that enveloped a woman’s body and nearly brought her to orgasm and in that same scene that gooey ear as her boyfriend pulled up one of those ear pieces. Beautifully gross and disgusting. Loved the blue lightning effects and the bodies being blown up and turned to dust. Lightning effects were top notch. Surprisingly good creature effects too. Not enough gore for a gorehound. I was expecting a lot more, but there’s a little bit when needed.
Acting, Story, and Script, kind of one big fleshy lump, they worked as well as you’d expect a movie like this to work. Nothing groundbreaking but there was nothing so bad in any of those areas that tanked the movie for me. Enjoyed seeing Marc Price, Skippy on Family Ties, in a lead role, did a great job with that task, and Tony Fields was awesome as the villain Sammi Curr – liked his look, very Eighties hair metal vibe. He nailed this role and directing, solid, better than expected. Charles Martin, the director, did a great job keeping your interest held throughout the runtime.
