Dawn’s light is breaking
Orange fire cracking the black
Over a rough sea
Dawn’s light is breaking
Orange fire cracking the black
Over a rough sea
Fishing boat
Trawling across the water
Birds in your wake
The day getting hotter

Dawn until dusk
Waves crash and splash
Hauling nets
Catching your daily cash

The life of a fisherman
Hard and calloused hands
Aches and pains for thee
Life on and from the sea
Ocean waves pounding
Crashing with salty rhythm
Rocking the shoreline

Just back from the beach
Happy times and lots of fun
With my family
+
In case you guys were wondering where I’ve been. I took a much-needed trip down to the coast to spend some time with my family. My wife and I agreed to leave all electronics behind (except for my Kindle of course), and just get back to family time. My mom and dad along with my son also went with us. Nothing greater than seeing your 2-year-old collecting shells, and loving the beach.
I also want to remind all of you that a lot of my stories are running free today – I’ve mentioned in a recent post that my Zombie stuff is free (yeah, Walking Dead is back), but this story is also running free. Take a ride if you dare with these two short horror stories. Vroom! Vroom! Doom! Doom!

Haiku: Spooky
2 ghosts traveling
Time to find a place to haunt
October is here
+
I wrote this Haiku last year around this time, and I thought I would share it with my new audience this year.
I would now like to open up this blog to you. Write a Haiku that screams Halloween, and drop the link into the box below.
As a sidebar note: This is my first attempt at doing this, so please let me know if you have any issues.
A special thanks to haikuhorizons.wordpress.com for inspiring me to try this.
Windy autumn breeze
Showers of nature’s color
Raining down on me

It is nice to be able to get out and run during the day now – helps to make the evening a lot easier to plan. Hard to run after a big dinner. It is also nice to have less humid days. Not wanting Winter here too soon, but I am enjoying the fact that Fall has arrived.
By the way, since this is a running post, it was a good walk/run today: 3 miles, 1.5 walk, 1.5 run.
So, have you started raking leaves? We started over the weekend. Already piling up.
A cool start today
Cloudless, sky full of deep blue
Sunshine seems to smile

Yellow beams of light
Fat full moon filling the Earth
A bright sky last night

Saturday morning
One more attempt at agents
Elusive they are
+
I decided to retry sending out information to agents this morning. I figured that it couldn’t hurt. Now that the self-publishing options are so large it is a great fall back plan when agents refuse your work. I honestly believe my work gets overlooked because you can’t categorize it. You can’t push it into one specific little genre, wrap it up in a bow, and say here it is world. I have also noticed that trend in the indy scene as well. A lot of short stories and novels I see or read that are self-published seem to not fit a particular category or genre. In this world of “it has to sell now” that probably hurts most authors who write outside the box – like me.
How about you? Do you write in one particular genre or do you try to blend several into one? Are you also done with agents or do you still try from time to time?
Here’s a little self plug for my short story The Imp, which is doing okay as a free download so far. It is available free until 10/5/2014. By the way, if you have something free, please leave me a link to it in the comment’s section below. I would love to read it.
Are the legends true? Does an Imp live in that haunted house able to grant riches? Find out for yourself if you dare: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JJMOW2C
I stumbled onto this today when I was putting my poetry book together. I have always loved this picture my wife created. I thought I would share it again today.

Hopes and fears take flight
As you wish upon a star
In a twinkling sky
I roll out of bed
Channel changing in my mind
What day of the week?

Sometimes in the morning my brain feels like this song. How about you?
First of October
Multi-colored leaves falling
Almost Halloween

I don’t know about you, but this is probably my favorite month. I love Halloween, and I love how the macabre becomes so routine this time of year. My son’s books are a prime example of that. He’s two and the books have mummies, ghosts, vampires, and even werewolves in them. Granted, they aren’t the scariest versions of those creatures, but the fact that it is a-okay to have them in a kid’s book just for the sake of this holiday, well, just another reason why I love Halloween. What about you? Do you love this time of year or not?

Nice to be able to run at this time of the day. It has been a while since I have been able to do it. Nice to see not only Fall, but October sneaking in around here. It really makes running a lot easier when the temperatures are lower.

Here are a couple of songs that fit perfectly with this run (though I didn’t listen to either one last night, nope, listened to Van Halen instead – something about them that is good to run to).
In case you were wondering why I didn’t post this last night. The reason was that I had posted a lot to this blog on Friday, so I thought I would give you guys a break. I don’t like to bombard with posts. I apologize if I ever do. There’s just a lot going on right now for me, as I try to get the word out.
A couple of reminders before I go: My collection of 6 Horror Short Stories is still running free today. Grab a copy if you haven’t gotten one already. Also, don’t forget about my Goodreads Giveaway. That’s all. Take care, and have a great Saturday.
You can read a bit of the Zombie Holiday Trilogy here: Zombie Sampler
Giveaway ends November 10, 2014.
