Shimmering softly
A figure in ancient clothes
Floating at the door
Shimmering softly
A figure in ancient clothes
Floating at the door
Two red eyes watching
Deep within the night’s shadows
Deadly fangs exposed

I actually had three other endings for this Haiku. Read them below and let me know if you prefer one of them.
A. Waiting for its meal
B. Ready for attack
C. Hidden out of sight
Sight:
Her common sense fails
She opens the old front door
Slips inside the house
Taste:
Mouth filled with dryness
Her throat turns to sandpaper
Saliva like dirt
Touch:
She feels the floor squish
Hands trace the soft rotten wall
Brush aside cobwebs
Smell:
Her nose sniffs and snorts
Filled with the dusty cold air
Rot, mold, and decay
Hear:
Behind her – footsteps
Creaking across the old floor
Swish of an ax blade
I thought about moving my Haiku Horizons challenges over to my other blog, Yep, I created that. I did that for a bit, but decided I wanted to start doing the challenges on this blog again. So, what you see below (and if you read them all thank you) is what I wrote for that blog. Enjoy and let me know if you have a favorite one.

Candy Colored Sky
In the sharp blue sky
Warm, yellow butterscotch sun
Brightens up the day
Hidden Behind a Mask
A strong Broadway cast
Phantom of the Opera
Playing sold out shows
Warm at Night
Skillful hands moving
Using thread to make a quilt
Filled with memories
Knife’s Gleam
The killer watching
– waiting for his final chance
Eyes steady and calm
A Forever Kiss
Chance meeting at night
A glint and flash of the blade
Killer striking flesh
Don’t Let it Die
Don’t throw away dreams
They may or may not come true
You still have to try
New Feathers
Tiny birds growing
In a nest of brown branches
Mother keeps them safe
Leader
Hail to the grand king
Sitting on his mighty throne
Crown upon his head
Creature
In the dark corner
Something moving, making noise
Bright red eyes staring
Rotting stinking corpse
Shambling, rambling, and roaming
In the mood for flesh
Hidden in shadows
Hissing and screeching loudly
Something unholy
The man stopped quickly
He stared at the severed hand
Resting on the log

For more prompts like “log” go here: Haiku Horizons
Rapping on the wall
Smiling as I tap the beat
Something just knocked back
Racing and pulsing
Red eternal energy
Food for the vampire
Wooden boards creaking
Footsteps that are not my own
Walking on the floor
Bleak cold grey headstones
Fresh light of dawn breaks on them
One grave is empty
In the darkened room
Nightlight protects the children
From monsters unseen
Deadly shape shifter
I hear your howls at the moon
Tonight it all ends
†
I fear no silver
You cannot defeat me now
In my beastly form
†
Claws slash, rip, tear flesh
Hunter and creature battle
A gun blast echoes
†
A month of days pass
Fever, chills, tormented soul
Full moon on the rise
Standing in shadows
Vampire watching his victim
Lusting for rich blood
The image flickers
Something moving in the room
White and transparent
Sweet pulsing crimson
Cocktail for eternal life
Blood drenched centuries
Boards creaking loudly
Ghostly steps on basement stairs
Spirit ascending
Riding a broomstick
Black dress flapping in the wind
Cackling as she flies
Tick, tock, tick – night time
The hallway floor creaks softly
Footsteps in the dark
Ghostly creaks and moans
Rattle, Rattle, Rattle, Boo
Up and down the halls
