A simple beauty
Bright glow, illuminated
Sun on orange leaves
Honor the fallen
Give thanks to those who still serve
Brave men and women

No matter what your feelings may be about the current wars we have faced, we still need to honor those who have fought hard and died while serving America. Today, put your personal feelings aside, because when you look into the face of war the people fighting it are sons and daughters. They have families who love and care for them just as we love our own families. Let’s not forget that on Veteran’s Day.

Back to the cold gear
Long sleeves, gloves, warm hat, thick shorts
It’s that time again

I can’t believe how cold it was running this morning – even with the sun up. I guess the cooler days are now upon us. I won’t miss the extreme heat, but I hope this is only a brief cool down. I already miss the warm days. Good walk/run today, and it is weird that I am starting to enjoy the walk breaks almost as much as the running. Guess I’m just getting old.
White fog hanging low
Tendrils of ectoplasm
Draped over the land

In keeping with the spirit of Halloween. I thought I would post a song I always make sure to give at least one spin to in October. Enjoy.
Warm October Day
Crunching on the late fall leaves
Halloween is close

I was listening to music while I ran today, and King Diamond kept coming on. I thought I would post a song from them to set the Halloween mood. Listen, and enjoy – with the lights on of course.
She reaches the fence
Hope just beyond the barbed wire
Killer almost there

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
Wake up, cool and dark
Coffee smells dominating
Caffeine warms me up
In an empty house
Booming dark voice calls to me
An echoing sound

My 2-year-old son inspired this one. For some reason echos shake him up. He will come out of a room and say something like “echo hear,” and of course the writer in me sparks up. How can I turn this into something scary? This Haiku came to mind. Happy early Halloween!
One of my favorite scary movies! I thought I would post another scene from “The Changeling.”

A scene from one of my favorite scary movies – “The Changeling.”
Old glory flying
Waving in the salty air
High above the shore

In case you were wondering, I wrote this Haiku when I was at the beach a few weeks ago. There was a man who lived a couple of houses down from where we were renting. Each day he would put up and take down the flag, which was on a pole at the end of this wooden board walk that led to the beach. I would see that flag as it hung over the sand with the ocean crashing behind it, and it inspired this Haiku.
Dawn’s light is breaking
Orange fire cracking the black
Over a rough sea
Fishing boat
Trawling across the water
Birds in your wake
The day getting hotter
+
Dawn until dusk
Waves crash and splash
Hauling nets
Catching your daily cash
+
The life of a fisherman
Hard and calloused hands
Aches and pains for thee
Life on and from the sea
Ocean waves pounding
Crashing with salty rhythm
Rocking the shoreline
